A car was destroyed by fire Sunday, Aug. 21, according to Jim Reuther, fire chief of the Jamestown Fire Department.

The department was dispatched at 4:39 p.m. to the 500 block of 4th Street Northwest to a report of a vehicle on fire, and three units responded. The car was located on the street and unoccupied.

“When we got there, it was fully involved from the engine compartment,” Reuther said. Firefighters extinguished the blaze using water and foam.

Reuther said the owner of the car was in the house where it was parked, walked outside and saw it was on fire.

Reuther did not have specific information on the type of car.

Firefighters were at the scene for about 25 minutes. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire isn’t known.

It’s got to be something up into the engine compartment or where it originated because that’s where most of the damage is at,” Reuther said. “It’s a total loss.”
