NEWTOWN, PA — A fire burned for around three hours early Thursday morning on State Street — and a car was parked in front of the nearest fire hydrant the entire time.

The Newtown Township Police Department shared photos from the scene Friday.

"This is a reminder of why we enforce parking violations in Newtown and Wrightstown Township," police wrote.

First responders had to smash the windows of the car to thread a fire hose through the car and access the hydrant.

"A blocked fire hydrant delays firefighters with critical water supply," police wrote. "If lives were in danger, this delay may have cost someone their life."

No one was killed or injured in the fire Thursday, first responders told Patch, but two apartments were rendered uninhabitable and a local business has temporarily suspended service following significant damage to the building.

The Pro Shop, the clothing store affected by the blaze, took to social media to thank supporters for their well wishes.

"Although the fire was contained, water runs downhill, and smoke goes where it pleases ... so there's a lot to assess," they wrote.
