THE MANHATTAN RUBBER MANUFACTURING COMPANY.

Considering that the Manhattan Rubber Manufacturing Company, 18 Vesey street. New York, is so young a candidate for public support as a purveyor of fire hose and fire department supplies, the amount of business it does is not only surprising, but must also be extremely gratifying to the management. Its hose is the highest grade of rubber hose; needing no drying after use. It is made of the finest Para rubber and special duck. It is light, pliable, and guaranteed to four hundred pounds pressure, its ends, being capped with the same pure Para as the tube, are thereby sealed, while at the same time no moisture can reach the duck. It is divided into Centaur grade —for general fire department service, and heavy and light Manhattan, of the same general construction as the first named brand, but made of a coarser duck, and, therefore, of an increased weight. Its cotton, rubber-lined fire hose, woven and knit, is doublejacket and single jacket—the former guaranteed to withstand fire department pressure, and the latter, 325 to 350 pounds pressure. Inthecaseof thedoublejacket cotton fire hose, the outer jacket can be renewed when worn out or burned and replaced by a new one. The company also supplies acotton rubberlined fire hose as adopted by the associated factory mutual insurance companies for factory fire protection, and guaranteed prepared milldew proof and not to burst under a pressure of 400 pounds, also a medium weight, to stand a water pressure of 300 pounds. Linen hose, plain or rubber-lined, including the “Underwriter” for factory fire protection, is likewise manufactured,as are also suction hose, couplings, and brass strainers, spanners of all makes—some with, and some without the hydrant-wrench, playpipes of brass flexible rubber, and flexible cotton wax and gum-treated hose nozzles, plain pipes and cast brass screw tip pipes and C. L. E. Waldron Spray nozzles, couplings, hose reducers, leak-stops, hose and ladder straps, hydrant gates, chemical engine hose, tubing, and hose couplings, expanding tool, fire axes, buckets, hooks, swinging hose racks, hose carts, with wheels forty inches in diameter and capacity up to 300 feet of hose. The catalogue of the Manhattan Manufacturing company, which will be sent on application, is elegantly got up and contains full particulars as to all the goods (and their name is legion) which it furnishes for fire service use. Its extensive works, of which a cut is given, are at Passaic, N ,J.. on the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western railway.
