Kraig Nace of the Duncannon EMS delivered good news during the Oct. 3 Wheatfield Twp. supervisors’ meeting.

Nace said his organization has achieved adequate staffing levels, and all pre-COVID fundraising efforts have been fully restored, including Sunday dinners and bingo.

Bingo is Monday nights starting at 6:45, with the kitchen open roughly an hour beforehand. The next dinner (roast beef) is scheduled for Oct. 16.

In addition, an outdoor screening of “Hocus Pocus” will occur in the Duncannon EMS station parking lot on Shermanta Drive Oct. 29. Gates open at 4:30 and the movie starts around 6:30. The event will include concessions, face painting and trick or treat. Costumes are encouraged.

In a similar vein, Duncannon Fire Company President Cody Weaver announced the department is hosting an open house on Oct. 15. Barbecue chicken will be served starting at 10 a.m. Weaver also reported the department has completed the purchase of a property at 27 North High Street in Duncannon.

In other news, the pedestrian bridge at Wagner Community Park is nearly ready. Secretary Vicki Jenkins reported the span is swaiting a DCNR inspection. Handicapped stenciling was waiting on dryer weather to be completed.

The township is trying to sell its 2010 Ford F-550 truck. The vehicle, which has 70,000 miles, will be posted on Municibid and the sale will include the truck’s salt spreader and plow.

The township also received good news on the pension front, receiving a distress rating of 1, meaning no action required. One is the best possible rating.

The board passed a resolution in accordance with Act 57 which allows for forgiveness of property tax penalties under certain circumstances. Tax collector Loraine Vogel explained the Act 57 resolution applies only to new property owners who do not receive their initial tax bill in a timely manner due to delays in the tax office updating ownership information. Vogel said such transitions can result in returned mail and delayed notifications of taxes owed.

The board released the fire relief funds it receives from the state. Duncannon Fire Company will receive $14,488, while New Bloomfield is the beneficiary of $4,829.

A $500 donation to Perry Crime Stoppers also was approved.

Codes officer Lester Nace announced the solar panel company Pink Energy went bankrupt. The failed company had completed two installations in the township.

Trick-or-treat night is Oct. 31, 6 to 8 p.m., which matches up with neighboring municipalities.

A budget workshop is scheduled for 7 p.m., Oct. 25.

Attendance at the township’s annual volunteer thank-you picnic was roughly 40.
