DELRAY BEACH — A Delray Beach police officer was arrested after he ran over a fire hose, damaging it, and interfering with crews responding to a house fire in Lake Worth.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, fire rescue crews responded to the home on Barberton Road about 2 p.m. Oct. 2.

That’s when 42-year-old Peter Sosa drove his truck over the main line fire hose, causing a hole that forced Palm Beach County Fire Rescue to retire the truck until the hose could be repaired. Crews still managed to extinguish the flames.

Then, Sosa drove away, nearly hitting a Sheriff’s deputy who was trying to stop him from getting away. The officer followed Sosa west on Lake Worth Road.

During the pursuit, Sosa reportedly slammed on his brakes in an attempt to make the pursuing officer hit his vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Sosa was eventually detained and charged with preventing or obstructing extinguishment of fire, damaging a main line fire hose, aggravated assault on a law enforcement official with a deadly weapon, and other charges. Sosa was set a bond of $11,000.

After being released on bond, he allegedly sent emails to the victim, the arresting officer, detective, and the arresting officer’s former spouse regarding the case.

The judge has ordered that Sosa is not to have contact with deputies listed as victims, witnesses, or their families. He has also been ordered to surrender any firearms and ammunition to the Sheriff’s Office.
