The Big Rapids Fire Department gave kids an inside look at what it's like to be a firefighter alongside teaching kids about fire safety.

BIG RAPIDS — Kids from across the area were able to meet a real life firefighter Thursday, July 28, at the Big Rapids Community Library's "Cool of at the Library."

The event took place at the Anna Howard Shaw Memorial Park, with a firefighter teaching kids about the various ways to protect themselves in the event of a fire and what things kids should avoid playing with so a fire is not started.

The firefighter put on all of his gear for the kids to see before answering a multitude of questions that the kids had. After that, the group was split into two. One group was able to see the fire truck and all of its items up close, and got a chance to climb into the vehicle, while the second group was able to use a fire hose to knock down imaginary flames from the model house that was brought.
