State police say the woman walked into the path of the pumper truck

A crash involving a fire truck and pedestrian turned fatal in Northumberland County.

According to state police, the Lower Mahanoy Fire Company was responding to a motor vehicle crash around 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

They say the pumper truck was heading south on Route 147, when 68-year-old Rebecca J. Wenrich entered the roadway and walked into the path of the truck.

Wenrich was struck by the pumper truck and died at the scene, according to state police.

Crews remained on the scene for over six hours while state police conducted an investigation.
