Abilene firefighters extinguish shed fire on Green Street

Firefighters Sunday extinguished a fire in a shed behind a residence in north-central Abilene, according to an Abilene Fire Department news release. 

The shed in the 1400 block of Green Street was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at about 3:45 p.m., the release said. Neighbors were attempting to extinguish the fire with a water hose.

The blaze also damaged a nearby power pole. 

The residence in front of the shed was vacant. AFD said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the release said, and damage was valued at about $5,000. 

This is the second fire on Green Street in two months. 

On Feb. 23, electrical arcing in an attic caused a fire at a residence in the 1300 block of Green Street, according to Reporter-News files.

Damage also was estimated at $5,000.
